Here's a recipe that's a little different from my usual. I love to do skewers in the summer. It's a change from a grilled steak or chicken and I love the marinades that give the meat a bit of a different flavor. This recipe didn't have anything too unusual - the only thing that may cause a bit of head scratching is the sambel oelek - you could use red pepper flakes instead, but go easy on these - they can be a bit hot. The sambal oelek has a nice amount of heat and is good to use in stir fry's as well, if you're wondering if you should buy a bottle. These beef skewers got good reviews from my testers - all said to keep the recipe - it was really tasty and super easy!
So, let's get cooking....
Steak Skewers
In a large bowl, whisk together
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp veg. oil
1 tbsp. b. sugar
1 tbsp. grated ginger
Juice of 1 lime
2 tsp. sambal oelek
Add 1 1/4 lb. of beef (I used sirloin strip steak), that has been cut into cubes.
Cover and pop into the fridge for about 4 hours.
Thread onto your skewers and grill until they are at your favorite doneness.(this is quick, skewers don't take more that a couple of minutes a side) and remember to turn them so they cook evenly.
*you can add garlic to this recipe - 2 cloves finely chopped (completely your choice, we have some allergies so I tend to leave out, but if you love garlic - add some in)
Enjoy!
